Fina Grimes is an artist living, teaching, and creating on Lenapehoking land, in the city of Philadelphia. Their practice has evolved significantly in appearance since their time at Moore College of Art and Design, where they focused on sculpture and textiles. However, it has always remained rooted in care—care for themselves, as a queer, gender-fluid, neurodivergent person, and care extended to others through their artistic practice and offerings.
They have contributed to many projects across the city and surrounding areas, including working on Killjoy’s Kastle at the Icebox Project Space and interning at The Fabric Workshop and Museum on Samara Golden’s Upstairs at Steve’s. Since graduating, Fina has worked as an artist assistant for several artists throughout Philadelphia, including Jesse Krimes, and later became the 3D Technician at their alma mater, Moore. Prior to that, they taught middle school art programs in collaboration with Moore and the Norris Square Community Alliance.
During their time as 3D Technician—managing the woodshop, ceramics, and plaster studio—they fell even more deeply in love with image-making, teaching, and community. Fina has exhibited work in a variety of group shows, including Fabric of Being at Salisbury University, and was recently a member of the Da Vinci Art Alliance Residency cohort, culminating in a group exhibition.
They are currently a member of Black Hound South, a communal pottery studio, and enjoy spending time with their service dog, their partner, riding their bike and caring for their many, many plants.
